Dr. James Murphy is a Head & Neck Surgeon at the Oral Cancer Institute. He received his Medical Degree from University College Cork in Ireland. He received his dental degree from the same institution. Dr. Murphy completed his residency training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Maryland Medical Center/ Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore Maryland. Following residency he completed a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Michigan. He subsequently worked as a fellow in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with a special interest in Craniofacial Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Murphy is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Area of Clinical Interest
Dr. Murphy’s clinical and research interests include the treatment of oral cavity tumors, benign and malignant, head and neck reconstruction including microvascular free flap surgery, and management of salivary gland tumors. Dr. Murphy has presented on these topics both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Murphy is a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Programs. He holds faculty appointments at both Rush University and Cook County Health and is involved in resident training.
